Shri Ram Charit Manas is an epic poem in Awadhi, written by the 16th-century Indian poet, Goswami Tulsidas. It is a compilation of many stories, including those from the eponymous Ramayana. The poem has a distinct religious theme, as it is written in the style of a Hindu devotional song, and has a variety of themes, including the stories of the gods, the story of Ram, and the story of the destruction of the gods and the demons. It is a major work of Indian literature, and is regarded as one of the finest poems in the Awadhi language.
The poem begins with an invocation to the god Vishnu, and proceeds to describe the story of Ram, and the many forms that he took in order to kill the demon King, Rakshas. It ends with a description of the ten incarnations of Ram, and the ten worlds in which he lived, as well as a description of his marriage to the goddess Sita.
